Mission:
To explore the Clark County, WI trails called Knobby Ridge.
Conditions:
40-45
degrees, mostly overcast, with 2 days of rain on the trails.
The
Trails:
Two large loops. We began on the "Beginner" loop
and after a short ride had to decide to continue or take the tougher
Eastern "Intermediate" and "Expert" loops.
We chose the tough loops. The trails have a wonderful mix of sand,
hard dirt, mud, hills, and ruts. Most of the trails are slightly
wider than
needed and are easily navigated. The Eastern loop runs on a high
ridge bordering the Black River and presented some tough hill sections
with plenty
of deep ruts at times.
We skipped the two Expert loops. The large Intermediate loop provided
plenty of challenges in the wet slippery leaves. As we headed back
onto the Western "Beginner" loop
we stopped for lunch. The Western loop provided more hills, looser
soil, and some fantastic scenery! The trail is long enough to satisfy
anyones
urge to get dirty. The trail ends by going into a long tunnel and
exiting inside the motocross track back at the base camp.
Trail
Rating:
These trails are well worth visiting. They have a 1/4
and 1/2 mile trail just for young kids, and large grassy area
for
camping, toilet/water, and a nice little motocross track. You
can pay for daily
or season use. It is $6 per adult and $3 per child. These trails
present a very challenging course for the small rider and plenty
of tough spots
for adults. |
